inspire. create. stitch.

Hoop Up for Jill

Just a short post tonight to share a piece of embroidery that I recently finished for Jill as part of the Hoop Up! embroidery swap. Jill's theme was "Text plus ...", meaning she wanted words with a little something extra. I decided on a few words that sum up my feelings about the swap (and swaps in general, really!) And for my little something extra, I decided to try my hand at doodle-stitched birds a la Kajsa Wickman and her book, Scandinavian Stitches. It was a fun technique that I'll definitely be using again ...

Hope you all had a great weekend! Go Heels!!

  1. Love the simplicity! Is the stitching on the birds done by hand?

  2. Very nice! I am curious if the words are hand stitched. If so, you have mad skills.

  3. Just lovely! As a knitter that was taught by my mother-in-law, I would give anything(or most anything, anyway) for my husband to even know how a knit stitch comes together! I love that you do this and can't wait for my 4 1/2 year old son to tackle his first sewing project(not sitting on my lap-that happens plenty!)!

I must say though that I might have fallen in love with my husband when we were dating and he had gotten a new down comforter for Christmas. I came over and he had borrowed his roommate's sewing machine to make his duvet cover bigger by sewing his top sheet to one edge.

Sadly, that doesn't happen anymore. But, I also know that I ask him to drill holes more often even though I'm perfectly able to work the drill!
